The Living Frame

Overview

In response to the architectural competition for the Astruptunet Visitor Centre, our design sought to create a seamless dialogue between built form and the dramatic landscape. Nestled into the steep hillside near the historic home of artist Nikolai Astrup, the proposed structure was conceived to frame alternating vistas of the surrounding mountains, lake, and sky, allowing visitors to experience the environment as living art. Constructed entirely of timber, the design emphasized circular sustainability with features such as a rooftop garden and integrated rainwater irrigation, aiming to honor Astrup's legacy of harmonizing art with nature.
